This is a circular tour starting from the free public car park just up from the Falling Foss Tea-rooms.
Navigation is quite straightforward. However, at Leas Head Farm we missed the diversion signs around the farm at first and ended up going back and forth.
Whinstone Ridge is exposed and has several patches of standing water that can be skirted round. Along here you find the base of York Cross and astone called Robbed Howe. Further along is boundary marker for the Sneaton Estate.
The tour crosses Parsley Beck and climbs up from the beck to The Hermitage. The way then drops down to Falling Foss and then climbs back up an unmade road to the starting car park.
The tour is varied as it passes through light woodland, conifer plantations and open moorland, where the ling is just starting to come into bloom. There are great views to be had of rolling countryside at various stages of the tour. There are no steep climbs, but there are some fences to scramble over.
